Problem of eliminating background from the images of book pages and 
documents is considered and approach to solve this problem is suggested. 
Approach is based on simple methods of one-dimensional nonlinear spatial filtering, 
provides high speed and efficiency of processing. 
It is obtained that the best of nonlinear spatial filter for background eliminating, 
oriented in the direction across the lines of text, is the order statistics filter, 
which corresponds to 75 percentile of distribution in the local neighborhood, 
which is formed by aperture filter and takes one line of text with line spacing. 
The proposed algorithm can be embedded in software of mobile devices with "slow" 
processor for solving the problems of image processing the pages of books and documents. 
Also the problem of color image processing is discussed.
